My spiritual journey has been a roller coaster. During certain seasons I feel like I am right next to God 24/7, during others I am almost disappointed at myself. First, remember your journey is NOT the same as anyone else’s. Go at the speed that is perfect for YOUR relationship with God. Before I went to college and I was living at home, I mimed at my church a lot and of course attended church every Sunday. While in college I have thankfully been able to be apart of Beacon which is the liturgical dance ministry at Howard. Being surrounded by my Beacon sisters has been indescribable. However, during my junior year I wasn’t as involved and I realized I leaned on Beacon A LOT to incorporate God in my everyday life. During this season, I had to relearn that seeking God IS NOT a chore. It was often easy for me to just skip my Bible plan that day or just hit a quick prayer while I was brushing my teeth in the morning. However, during the past couple months I have found myself naturally seeking God a lot more and it feels amazing. Personally, I feel closest to God when I set aside time in my everyday life to talk to him and just incorporating Him in every move. Here are a few things that have kept me grounded:
Listening to sermons/gospel music in the morning
While I am doing my makeup in the morning, I usually fully meditate on the gospel music I’m listening to. Remember during worship, we are given the opportunity to exchange bitterness for gentleness, brokenness for wholeness, and unforgiveness for love which is SO beautiful. Worship reestablishes our hearts condition to crave God to restore it.

Writing down my prayers
As you all know I communicate a lot better through writing. Whether at night or in the morning, I try to write down my prayers as I am praying them. This causes me to go further than the casual routine prayer. It’s also amazing to go back and see what you prayed for in the past and see how God answered your requests.
Changing my Mindset
Recently, I have been stressed about a lot of personal things. I found myself being VERY negative about my situation and only complaining. Instead, I now speak positive affirmations and any time I find myself complaining, I instantly change my mindset and language.
