A while ago I was having a conversation with my mom about our personal walks with God. During the conversation, the question of “Why do we pray if everything is already predestined in the first place?” came up…which is a VERY valid question. And just the other day during bible study with my dance ministry at Howard, the same question was posed.
During the conversation with my mom some of the points we made were that prayer is for us and our relationship with God, while worship is solely for God. Our walk with God is all about trusting him and prayer builds that faith which builds the relationship.
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
“6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Prayer symbolizes surrenderance
Then comes thanksgiving
As believers, we should have peace because we know God hears our prayers
If he heard it, he’ll make a way
Prayer gives you access to your worth
Be in spirit and in truth when you pray
When speaking to our Father, we should ask Him to bless the things we pray for. Faith in a Christian walk is simply spiritual aligning with Gods will. When you drop something before the feet of the Lord, don’t pick it back up! Something I heard the other day was, “back up before God does.” When asking God for something we should immediately remove our hands and leave it in his… if we don’t, God may back up. We should also never become “too busy” with the material blessings God has given us that we don’t make time to pray to him and worship Him. The same way God gave us those blessings, He can take them away and we won’t have a choice but to fall at his feet.
Romans 8:28 NIV
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Because we know that all things work together, we know we won’t be forsaken
The level to which you ask God for things shows how much faith you have.
James 4:2 NIV
2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
If you never ask, you’ll never receive
Knowing that God knows our heart before we even go to him and that the Holy Spirit consistently intercedes on our behalf is absolutely amazing. However, in all of these blessings we can not forget to talk to our Father. Asking him for those things we desire shows him how much trust and faith we have in Him. Even when we sin, knowing that no sin we commit can separate us from His love (Romans 8:39).
