fake grown

With the semester now in full force , so is my busy schedule. During winter break, I was extremely excited to come back to school because I had exciting things waiting for me!I like being on the go, but little did I actually understand HOW busy I would be this semester.

Here’s a little snippet of a typical week for me… Monday’s I work from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. , class from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. , a meeting at 7 p.m. and dance 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. Tuesday’s and Thursday’s I have class from 9:40 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with about an hour and a half break. Then dance from 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. Then good ole Wednesdays 🙂 Work from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. , class from 3:40 p.m. – 6 p.m., sometimes a meeting at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. and always dance 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. On Friday’s, I work from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday’s I have dance from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., usually a meeting later and lastly on Sunday’s, usually a meeting and laundry, cleaning and homework.

So you may say, “hey naz when do you take naps, eat, do homework or sleep?” LOL I ask myself the same thing 🙂 The other day I literally found myself crying because I am SO busy and never have the time to just sit and breathe.

In all of this movement and busyness I’m trying to find my rest which is seeming pretty hard. I feel like time is flying by and I’m just going through the motions. This week I’ve been working on taking time for myself each day.

  • 15 minutes before I go to bed, I take time to journal. Even if it is 3 a.m. and I just finished my homework, I find that I sleep easier when I do journal after a long day than when I don’t.

  • I’ve been waking up a little earlier so I can pray and just chill for longer in the morning.

  • I’ve also been getting ready earlier than when I need to leave in the morning, so I usually take the time to make breakfast and call my mom.

  • While getting ready in the morning I have also been listening to sermons.

Through all of this, I have also been doing A LOT on my own and I honestly love it. Because my alone time of just sitting in bed relaxing has been cut down, I’ve made my alone time the car rides to work, shopping, grocery shopping, getting my nails done alone… the little things.

I’m thankful for this season in my life I like to call being “fake grown”. It’s teaching me a lot about myself and forcing me to appreciate the small things. I’m also actively working on saying no to things because I literally don’t have time for everything.

This season is also catering to my word of the year “self”. The things that are keeping me busy are for myself and I know they will only cultivate more opportunities for my future. I am also staying away from unhealthy distractions whether they be people or just being to caught up in my own mind. So, for now I’m content with being “fake grown”.
