So we are all familiar with Matthew 17:20, “He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
This verse has been a literal testament of my faith my entire life. When I was unsure if something would come to full fruition, my mom always reminded me that God doesn’t just dangle things in front of our face. From attending trips in high school to continuing my education at Howard, my mustard seed sized faith has carried me.
One day I was praying and I was like wow…mustard seed faith has really like…CARRIED ME! Just trusting, believing and stepping out on faith. Knowing that faith without works is dead, so just putting in the work and trusting God. I know it’s easier said than done but it always works.
A couple months ago I was thinking about what I wanted my next tattoo to be and Matthew 17:20 immediately came to mind. But, I didn’t just want a tattoo of a mustard seed because that’s literally a dot and I have moles/blemishes bigger than that lol. So I immediately went to Pinterest and looked for Matthew 17:20 tattoos. I saw a lot of mountains, however that was not the purpose of my tattoo. I wanted to emphasize the mustard seed. I then looked up how mustard plants looked. I thought it was amazing how such a small seed made such a beautiful flower. Sort of like my faith. The smallest action of faith has blossomed into so many opportunities, relationships, experiences, etc. After that, I looked up mustard plant tattoos (yes, I know that sounds weird lol) and a lot of them had lavender sprigs with it. Looking up the meaning of lavender I found that it represented grace, elegance, refinement and purity. Lavender is very delicate and the actual plant helps with anxiety and insomnia.
So here we are, a mustard and lavender plant tattoo 🙂
