Growing up in church I ALWAYS heard that God came so that we would have life and have it more abundantly and I always thought it was a nice little saying but never actively believed it, acted in it, or even looked it up.
The “saying” comes from John 10:10 NKJV, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
The New Living Translation says: “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
So diving into this, for starters I decided to look up the definition of abundantly. It is defined as “in large quantities; plentiful”, “extremely”, and “well supplied”. Then I decided to define “living life more abundantly” for myself. To me, it means living to our fullest potential, not dwelling on past things and not living a life of “woe is me”, but realizing we are NEVER lacking and ALWAYS running over!
An abundant life is a life in its abounding fullness of joy and strength for mind, body, and soul. It is the opposite of feelings of lack, emptiness and dissatisfaction. When we live life more abundantly, it causes us to seek for the meaning of life and actively change our lives.
So how do we live abundantly?
– Having abundance mentally
This goes hand in hand with having an abundant mentality, you reap what you sow and will only receive what you give! If you are giving all of your endeavors positivity and hard work, you will receive JUST that.
– Don’t anticipate, participate
This is a life lesson I learned a couple years ago on a trip across the country. Anticipating does not allow you to live in the moment or fully appreciate your now. Remember that God is the author of our future and he will never forsake us… He has it all planned out! Also, we HAVE to stop dwelling on past things that we can’t change (trust me… I struggle with this one). We have to accept it fully for ourselves and move on. Personally, I’ve been working on accepting what comes in my life and actually allowing it to leave and leaving it. Don’t forget to go when you leave my friends!!!! What is for you will always be EFFORTLESSLY for you!
– Find small things that make you happy and seek them in your everyday routine!
Personally I love sunlight and just good weather in general. So I spent most of my summer outside (because of work) and during car rides my windows were always down and I was blasting music lol. Also, every morning I open my blinds!!
The word “live” is a verb meaning to remain alive and have life. The informal definition is spending one’s time in an extremely enjoyable way. Like the saying, “living your best life”. So make sure you’re actively living your best life!
